My 1972 omc started making a slight noise so I shut it off and checked the fluid levels. The upper was a little low and the intermediate had practically none. When I tried to add oil to the intermediate it began coming out from behind the ball gear. I am assuming the seals are shot behind the ball gear. I am on a tight budget and need to try and fix this myself. I need to know what is involved with changing out the seals. Thanks for any help. Rick

You really need to get a book on this. You have to drill out the nut covers on face of the ball gear. You will need a press, and a few special seal tools. There is a crush sleve that sets the preload on the bearing behind the ball gear, etc. etc.
