Advice on Lake fishing with lures in Lake Sonoma CA.

I have been trying to lake fish for large mouth bass and know close to nothing about it. I see a lot of people using rubber worms and I've caught fish with the wacky worm technique....but not much of fish-type lures.

Been using one of these, but haven't had much luck. Any advice?



The lakes I've been fishing in have blue gill in them, should I use fake blue gill lures then? I heard people use live shad, but have no idea on where to get those.

I'm going out for the first time in my own boat this weekend with a buddy, and I'd like to feel a bit more prepared. The lake is Lake Sonoma, in Northern California.

I'm going to try Yorty and Cherry Creek....
