never goes higher than about 2000 RPMs. idle seems right but as i increase speed the needle slowly rises and tops out at the 2 grand mark. before replacing with a $80 new one, is there something i could be checking that would cause this? its a Faria

Re: faulty tach

That dial on the back.Re-hook it and start. Then slowly push in the dial and turn it to the right 1 click and test it.If that doesn't work 1 more click.Keep going till it reads right or if that don't work then buy a new one.J

Re: faulty tach

assuming the settings on the back are correct for your rig. the test for my tach per the mercruiser s/m is to test it against a known good shop tach.
