Hello, I'm new to this site but I was wondering if anyone has a diagram for the push button shift switch, and my wiring does not have a blocking diode, would that cause my motor to not engage the neutral? My forward and reverse work, but no neutral? Any suggestions?

Re: Shifter wiring

The blocking diode was only used on certain models. What do you have?? Anyhow, the diode is to prevent alternator feedback to the ignition switch. When that feedback happens, you can't turn the motor off. Like I said, only certain ones.

The diode has nothing to do with neutral. You probably have a bad push button switch.

Re: Shifter wiring

It is a 1969 Evinrude 55 hp electric shift, Model #55973A...Serial #J14495, Do you have a diagram of the wiring for the ignition switch to the shifter switch, and back to the motor? Or do you have any suggestions on what I should test or do?....Thanks
