Hello All,
New to forum. I have a 1997 Evenrude OceanPro on my 97 Aquasport osprey 225. Yesterday, after docking for a break, when starting, trim would not go back down. Frustrated in that the same problem occured and the trim motor assembly underwent replacement less than a month ago. The engine will trim up, but not down. Tried to un-screw the manual release, but screw head seems stripped and corroided. When activating the throttle switch, I can hear a suspected selenoid click, but not action. Trouble shooting suggestions?

Re: Trims up but not down

If that is a two wire trim motor and two small square relay, the ground is switch by one relay and the power is switched by the other.

When one relay 'clicks' but the trim does not function the problem is usually the 'other' relay, the Normally Closed contacts are bad (the Ground).

Each relay has two 'sets' of contacts, Normally Open (NO) and Normally Closed (NC)

Both NC contacts are Grounded, when a relay triggers the NC opens and the NO closes to power the trim motor, grounding thru the other relay.

When the 'Down' relay triggers and the trim motor fails to run then the NC contacts in the 'Up' relay have failed.

Replace the 'Up' relay.
