There seem to be many problems and faults with Johnson/Evinrude outboards in this forum and elsewhere. I am also a (proud) owner of a 60hp Johnson beast. My concern is do you think I made a good desision in buying a Johnson.

I have heard much good praise about the Johnsons over the years here in the UK and back home in South Africa.

Any advice/thoughts out there?

There are very very many Johnsons and Evinrudes out there. They are very good engines, but the owners are not always responsible.
If you look at most of the problems you will find that the great majority is caused by poor maintenance, not mechanical failure.
On this board there are many posts that ask questions about 30 to 70 year old engines that still work. That should be a sure sign that the Johnson Evinrude engines are very reliable when taken care of properly.
