Hello,
I recently replaced the long block for my 2001 mercruiser v-6 4.3 gen+ engine. It runs good but has an oil leak. It seems to be coming from the top of the oil pan near the front main seal right where it joins with the timing cover. On the right side as you're looking at the engine from inside the boat.
When I installed the timing cover and oil pan on the long-block, I used the oil pan gasket that came with the rebuild, I presume not a special marine version. Also, I used a timing cover for a standard chevy 4.3. Is that ok, or should I have used the mercruiser OEM parts? Could that cause the leak? I did apply the RTV sealant as it instructed in the manual.
Any other reason why it would be leaking from there? I don't think the oil is under pressure at that spot. It's a steady leak.
