Topping up a Cobra

Previous owner had our new to us boat completely serviced last fall. Being the trusting guy I am, I'm checking everything myself. I lowered the outdrive and removed the dipstick and there was oil on it. I wiped it clean and rechecked the level which now showed it was low. I used a screwdriver to check the level and it is very close to full. My question is can I top it up thru the top hole or should I remove the side fill plug and top it up?

BTW. We are talking about an '89 Capri with a 3.0 OMC and Cobra outdrive.

Re: Topping up a Cobra

If you can see it on the dipstick or screwdriver.Yes you can fill it thru the top.
Just make sure that when you service this unit that you fill it the correct way.
Just filling it from the bottom(on a cobra) will result in VERY low oil and VERY expensive repairs.J

Re: Topping up a Cobra

Thanks for the quick reply. I've read my manual and am aware of the different filling procedure compared to a mercruiser. Just wasn't 100% sure I could top it up thru the dipstick hole. Thanks again.
