trim compatibility issue suggestions?

ok i have a 1978 johnson 85hp v4 seahorse (thats what the cowling says)
#85ml78c or something like that and right now it has the old style rod and hole trim sysytem purely manual by hand. and i found on CL what could be a great deal on a trim package (everything) from a 1978 85hp evinrude. will these match up for the tilt/trim ???? i need to know quick so maybe i can jump on this... thanks in advance!!

and also im wondering if this is a "do it yourself" kinda swap... or is this something i need to have a pro do... am i getting in over my head??

ok mine is the johnson the pic with me and a friend in... the trim unit im trying to figure out will fit is the evinrude.... please help someone!!!

I'm not sure if they're compatible though I would think so...

I swapped out the manual trim for a power trim unit between a 1990 evinrude 70 and a 1995 evinrude 70hp last week. It's not a big job and a friend and I did it in about 2 hours. Mostly grunt work removing and installing the engines from the boat.

You can compare the power trim and tilt assy. part numbers on shop2.evinrude.com. If they are the same part then yes they can be swapped.
