New to this site as well as a new boat owner.
Just recently bought a 87 sea nymph 175 gls.
It has a 1990 Mercury 40 horse 2 stroke 4 cylinder on the back.

Wanted to take out tomorrow so I went cleaned her up a bit.
Took off the motor cover, started her up and shed fired up right away.
alot of blue smoke....yes, I know, it is a 2 stroke.
Shut it off and went to look at everything over.

The gas kept on driping from the back of the carb.

I took the fuel bowl off and cleand it, cleaned the inlet needle, sparayed carb cleaner all over.
But did not help.
looks almost like it floods the thing and there is no overflow.

Also I took the spark plugs out. looks like they have been changed recently. and they were all wet/dirty.
Is the fuel mixture wrong. the guys said 50 to 1 ratio.
Is that right?

I justy ordered a service repar manual, but it wont be here till wed.

Thanks
Andre

Sounds like you have a piece of debris between the needle and seat in the carb. Can be a small piece of gasket, dirt, or anything. It's preventing a good seal between the needle and seat. (Also could be a worn out needle & seat...or a saturated float that doesn't rise and push the needle against the seat.)
50:1 is correct fuel /oil mix.

Thanks.
I cleaned the seat and the needle with the carb cleaner when i took it apart. I dont remember a gasket.ill have to take it apart again.
i guess the float can be saturated.

what about the wet looking, dirty spark plugs, is that normal for a 2 stroke?

what about the ratio?

So I took it to a mechanic and we figured out its the throttle shaft from the upper carb going to the lower. since there are no parts such a gasket/o ring. I would have to get a new carb.
here is a link to schematics of the carb.

any advice on that? since the 2 stroke might be obselet here in cali. I dont want to go spend $$ to fix it.
