I am in the process of purchasing the boat that is in the attached file. I can see this chrome thing that is close to the winch close to the keel but I cannot figure out what it is and the current owner doesn't know either. Does anyone have an idea what it might be?

Looks like a vent. Possibly for the fuel tank or it could be covering up a Boo Boo. It sure is far forward.

I never thought of these they're good suggestions. I forgot to mention that this is a 1998 SeaRay 185 with a 4.3 I/O.

It's hard to tell from the picture, but is there a hole in the center?

If so...I have something similiar on my older bowrider. Mine allows the forward compartment (great for icing down the brews) to drain as the ice melts.

Happy boating!

2 to 1 it's an anchor locker drain.

It's a blow hole so your boat can breath when it is proposing.

Looks to me like one of those clamshells you cover cables and wiring with where ther enter/exit. Wonder what it's covering up?

Possibly,,,,,but why would there be a clamshell, (at a funny angle to boot), instead of a regular thru hole, and why there, instead of piping it over to the side?

Sompin fishy there I tell ya!

It's the anchor locker drain. I have the same part on my boat. The clamshell is to prevent water from being forced into the hole while underway. The location is because the drain has to be below the lowest point in the locker. Water doesn't flow uphill, ya'know.

a lot of boats have them.i think they are air vents to air the hull.the clam shell keeps water from getting into the hull.

Nope, it's an anchor locker drain.

Oops posted the answer, it's the drain for the anchor locker. The reason for the clam shell is to prevent water from being forced into the hole and into the anchor locker while the boat is moving forward.

If you are talking about the thing right next to the cleat, it's the horn.
