I have aquired a, what I think is, extra long shaft 18hp tiller from the early 1980's. The transom on the boat I'd like to put it on is for a short shaft. Can I remove the midsection and make it a long shaft motor and then just build my jack plate or transom elevator? Can somebody offer some guidance on the quick and dirty on removing the midsection so I can go fishing sooner than later? This is my first Merc and I'm really looking forward to trying it out. All answers are appreciated. Thanks.
