Numbers off stern drive M 983486 SN J340230

The big rubber boot is shot on stern drive. Will have to be replaced.
How to do? Is there a sticky to follow? I do not have a repair manual.
Thanks, Ken

link to d/l an "ok" manual (you want the first one on the list):

the manual tells you to remove the drive to replace the boot, but many report doing it by removing only the prop, and then slipping it carefully over the drive with lots of hot soapy water

It is very possible to replace over the drive. But you must be careful not to tear it when stretching around the drive. I have done dozens this way. it is important to completely clean the old sealer off the transom too. Make sure you use a good marine sealer between the hull and the rubber, one that is rated for BELOW the waterline use. Life Seal is one of the best.

This is what keeps your boat from sinking, do it right.

A tube of household sillycone won't cut it either.
