:cool:Hey guys I,m a newbie and I'm confused and frustrated with my 35hp chrysler. It will start right off the batt and idle but won't throtle up and go. I've replaced plugs and wires cleaned the carb. The coils seem to be puting spark in the wire, at least thats what my twitching arm is telling me after I pulled the wire out when it was running. The top piston I know is firing but the bottom plug is all fowled out. The motor wants to run and gives a glimmer of hope sometimes but just won't catch. Would apreciate any wisdom that your experience could pass my way

Do a compression test on the cylinders. See if they are low or about the same for each cylinder.
Next could be the points.

I had the same thing going on with my 35hp force & it turned out the gas had water in it. Empty & clean out your gas tank, clear the fuel line & drop the float bowl on the carb & spray it out with carb cleaner.

Re: 35hp not running good

I've already dropped the float bowl and cleaned the carb and that didn' seem to help. I unfortunatly have a full tank of gas in the boat. Would some "dry gas" additive work? Incidently the fuel lines are only a little over a year old so there shouldn't be any problem with that. Will try the points and compression check next I gess. REALY apreciate the advice ges its time to get dirty hands again! YIPPEE!!!

Re: 35hp not running good

Do the compression check first, and if OK look for:
1) Bad gas (water in it).
2) Plugged Main jet in carb.
3) Cracked fuel pump diaphragm.
4) Any air leaks or loose connections in fuel line from gas tank. Also make sure tank vent screw is open.
5) Weak coil on cylinder that is fouling out. Could also be defective spark plug that won't fire under compression.
