Hi, I'm trying to restore a 16' Glasspar Avalon. I'd like to replace the wind shield with a "half cab/raised steering console". I was thinking of using 1/2" ply on the sides and where the steering wheel and other "stress bearing" points will be and either 3/8" or 1/4" ply on the rest of the console. Then fiberglassing it with 2 oz mat and 10 oz cloth. Will this combination be strong enough? Are there lighter core materials to use such as foam? Will it be as strong. I understand that if I do mount anything I will need some kind of "backing" for strength. Thanks in advance.
