Fuel Contamination - Please help

So I thought I ran out of fuel.. (turned out to be the fuel line on the tank side) and started putting fuel in from a container.. after which I realized it was diesel. I would say I put in about 2 gallons into my 21 gallon tank.. in which I had about 16 gallons of regular fuel.. I figured it would be more then enough to dilute it. So I continued to run my motor..

about after going out 2 more times, (running WOT for probably 3 hours total).. engine just dies.. I removed the line and pumped it into a clear glass.. and the fuel had a orange color.. The only way we could get the motor to run was to move the throttle from hi to low really fast.. it'll run that way.. and smoke a lot..! So I pumped out all the fuel from my tank and put new in it today. Changed the fuel filter. And with all that, I still cannot get it to run without moving the throttle rapidly. Any ideas????

It's a 2002 50hp Merc 3cyl. I have not checked the plugs yet, but will do tomorrow.. Any help would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks,

Original problem is water. I would bet the orange "fuel" is water with red dye from the diesel, and maybe rust.

Fuel filter plugged, (if there is one) or carb orifices or injectors plugged.

hope it helps
