Well I know for sure I have a head gasket issue on my Volvo Penta 5.0Gl with GM 305 block and Im hoping thats all it is (long story) but I picked up a used long block 5.0 Mercruiser GM 305 from a guy who didnt winterize it and cracked the block with only 60 hrs run time on the motor. So the heads, pistons, etc are all still good and like new so I figure I have spare parts if needed. My question is are these basically the same motors? Will the heads swap from the 5.0 Mercruiser to my 5.0 Volvo Penta? I will of course use my intake/exhaust manifolds and my block but just curious if there are any differences between the two?!?!? Mine is in a 99 Glastron and his came out of a 2005 Larson so I know they are both the newer GM 305s...
