50 Evinrude electric shift how to Question

On a late 60s early 70s oil driven electric shift lower unit how does the solinoid shaft pins attach into the oil pump? Cant get the pins to go deep enough to get the cap on. Any close up pictures or information would be a great help THANKS:)
