I have a RIB with a front console and controls with an electric start 30 hp Evinrude out back. It did not come from the factory with a tach, and I'd like to add one.

The control appears to have a plug in the end of it (see picture), and according to the factory service guide, it will accommodate "accessories" such as a gauges.

My question is this: Are the tachometers universal? If so, then I'd just need the "connector kit" which as near as I can tell is part number 0174732

There seems to be a "systems check" version and non "systems check" version, but I don't really understand what this means - I'm assuming that after a certain year, the electronics on the motors were modernized to include some diagnostic information that feeds info to the tach in a different manner...?

Thanks!

You will need a tach that has a dial on the back with a 5P setting.

Thanks. Got it figured out. Now just have to decide whether to spend $45 for the harness that plugs in, or just tease the wire out of the control and save the money....
