1968 Evinrude 18HP runs only with choke on

My 1968 evinrude 18HP starts very easy with choke on. When I turn the choke off, it will idle ok with just a little coughing. At full throttle, it will die if the choke is off. If I turn the choke on, it runs fairly smoothly and will achieve plane just not quite full speed.

dirty carb,,,choke on makes it pull fuel,,,clean out the carb,might need carb kit,,,but 9 times out of 10,,,thats the symptoms of a dirty carb

Dirty carb was it. Soaked in carb cleaner, blew out passages, installed and away we go.

when they sit they get sticky,its good to run them out of fuel before a sleep,and drain the bowl/or bowls on the carb/s,,glad for you it was an easy fix
