i have a 50 hp that does the same thing even with a new waterpump as far as the tail tell goes put it in the water and will be fine, it should charge the battery and u can check that with a multi meter hook it up to the battery and should read 12. something then start it up and hook it up again and should read higher, 50:1 mix is fine

Re: Help w/ my mercury blue band

you said it does some times and not others i would do this at the bottom there should be a plate where the muffs go on take them off and shoot some air backwards throu the pee hole if its clear take it to the lake and see what happens will take about 10 to 15 seconds for water to flow if no water then replace if water then have fun

shoot some air through it backwards and see what happens with muffs on sometimes u get gunk in there if nothing u will have to drop lower unit and to put it back on and two people make it a lot easier

Re: Help w/ my mercury blue band

i do mine with motor in reverse take out bolts remove lower unit take cover off remove old waterpump being careful of key way and key imspect gaskets and replace if required inspect houseing cover if all looks put new water pump on i shoot it with some wd40 just to lube it up a little then slide cover down and as waterpump goes into cover turn shaft counter clockwise reinstall bolts on cove and reinstall lower unit make sure water tube goes intu water pump houseing and shift linkage hooks back up correctly and reinstall bolts. cheak and make sure gears work then put on muffs and try it out when installing shift linkage helps to have someone move shifter lightly and when installing shasft spindle helps to have someone turn flywheel by hand slowly and what ever u do do not pry lower unit off with anything
