Gauges for Outboard

How do I go about getting the correct tachometer for this engine? Is it a matter of how many "poles" in the stator? Or will any tach set up for a 3 cylinder work for me?

How do I determine number of poles?

Has anyone instrumented an outboard with the full package of gauges, i.e., oil pressure, water temperature/pressure, voltmeter, etc.?

Restoration coming along, I'll be cutting and fitting new floor of 1/2" marine plywood and fiberglass today.

Thanks all have a great daY!

Re: Gauges for Outboard

Most tachometers are "universal" meaning they will work for a lot of different motors, and have a dial setting on the back to set it for your particular engine.

That motor uses a "6P" Setting, and should have a gray lead coming out of the controls for the tach.

You can instrument most of the items you mentioned, however, a 2-stroke outboard will not have an oil pressure gauge.

Hope that helps!

Stick with water pressure, tacho, fuel and voltmeter for an outboard. Water pressure is more important than temp.
