Default 88 starcraft pontoon boat tachometer wrong

87 model Force 125, tach is off (I estimate by at least 1000 rpm (it shows to idle at 2500 rpm!). Full throttle shows at 7000 rpm, thought it was just a matter of change setting on tach , it is set at 6 "pul/rev" whatever that means but that doesnt seem to corresponding with the no of cyl (4cyl), I cant find anything in the manual about tachs so I will move it to 4 and see if that helps.Taking the family out today and will see how that works, if anybody can clue me in I would appreciate it , will check back later. Thank you in advance.

Thanks Trent, of course setting the tach at 4 didnt help(pushed the tach higher ) will check out the diagram you sent and see if I can find anything wrong, priced a tach at boat shop for 139.00 but hope I dont have to go that route.Motor is running great but its disconcerting not knowing if you're pushing it too hard.
