25 hp evinrude - quits

I have a 1996, 25 hp evinrude that cranks and runs fine for the first 1/4 mile then it either quits completly or boggs down to 1/4 speeed for 100 yards then quits. It will restart and run for 100 yards then quit completly. If you wait 30-40 minutes it will start and run for 100 yards and quit. The power supply, fuel tank and lines have all been replaced. Any ideas?

vent open on fuel tank? have you check spark immediately when it quits. sounds like it could be several thing, carb bowl fills then runs empty, float needle stuck. power pack or coil getting warm and failing.
