I have a 90hp 1998 . The clymer shows a bracket with a mark, my motor does not look like that it just has a casting mark on the top of carbs. When i shot the light it said it was 40 i got it down to 32 as per the manual and now it is surging really bad after idle, i adjust the linkage and idle but it did not help. should i go back to TDC find 0 deg and shoot the light there??? I think someone took off the bracket with the timing mark on it if anyone has a pic of a similar motor that would be great.....or any suggestions would be great also....thanx

Re: Timing Pointer Mark

Are you adjusting the timing using the starter? If you are checking the timing at idle, you should read 0-2 degrees BTDC. If you are checking it using the starter, it should read 32 degrees cranking.

Can you send me a pic of the front of your engine and the marks on the flywheel? johnandnanc182@yahoo.com
