Old 7.5 mercury ????????

Hello guys, I also have been working on a 7.5 mrecury serial # 3279038 and my question is how do i know if this is a long or short shaft the year of this engine is a 1972 i believe but any help would be great Thanks.

Yes, it is a 1972 model.
Measure from the anti-ventilation plate to the inside edge of the clamps (where the clamps sit on the transom).

15" is short
20" is long
25" is extra long
