I just came across a few very old and complete boat motors including a 1916 Evinrude Jet. I know nothing about them and was wondering what a good source of information might be. Any info would be helpful. Thanks.

Re: Vintage Motors

Nice collection. I have several of them in mine as well.

The old Evinrude rowboat motor is quite interesting. I've never seen one like it. I would guess it worth more than all the others combined.

I would suggest that you post that pic on the AOMCI site I listed before for their input. Someone there should be able to identify it for you.

Re: Vintage Motors

Your Evinrude row boat motor was converted to be used as a water pump, some of the pump water was diverted to cool the engine itself. They're certainly not common but there are other examples out there. They were used to move water from one place to the other, similar to modern portable pumps.
Hope this helps!

Re: Vintage Motors

Thank you for the information. I recently purchased the inventory of a very old boat store and these motors were in the back room. I was told that they were complete and working up until a couple of years ago when the shop closed and they have gathering dust ever since. I don't think the Evinrude rowboat motor runs. It is not siezed and appears to be complete but there is a hole in the gas tank. I would like to sell the whole lot together. Please let me know if there is any interest. I am hesitant to try and ship these individually. There are 10 motors in total, including the 1936 electric trolling motor and the 1916 Evinrude .

Re: Vintage Motors

That is a really interesting collection. Nothing in perfect shape, but all in decent condition and look like they could be brought back to life.

You won't get rich off the collection, but if you sell them individually, you can get some money for them. The old seakings are probably worth about $100 each, some of the others a little more, some a little less.

It will be hard to find someone with the cash for a hobby like this to sell the whole lot for what it is worth. As time goes on, there are fewer and fewer collectors, and more and more collections for sale.

Where abouts are you located? Knowing the state or region of the country would let someone on here know to contact you if they had any specific interests and could drive to pick them up. Shipping them would be a huge pain in the backside.

What other parts did you get?

Re: Vintage Motors

I can confirm the Evinrude pumper. We have one in our collection. They were used primarily as irrigation pumps...

Re: Vintage Motors

I'm located in Redding, CA up north by Lake Shasta. I probably have about 3000 new old stock parts from starters to cowlings and just about everything in between. Their inventory was quite extensive. Unfortunately, it is very unorganized so it is hard to get a good a count or find particular parts.

Re: Vintage Motors

Yikes, that is a long haul from Michigan. One of those pumpers would be neat to have, but probably more to ship than it is worth.

Good luck with it all!
