I'm polishing my boat for the first time. (having a heck of a time getting the oxidizing off!) I found a screw hole from what looks like a snap on rivet from the cover that was removed. Also, there are a few screw holes on the transom from hardware that must have been screwed on. All above the water line, about 1/8th inche in diameter. (deck screw diameter)

What product can I use to plug them?

Thanks....sorry, what's CTC?

Not on our lake. I just got some fish from a commercial fisherman (should I say that publicly??) They had their Bombarier on the ice last week....but no ones out there now.

I'm calling Jessica Lake Lodge (closest lake I can think of) asking about the ice there. As soon as they say its gone...I'm taking the day off! :D

why 4200 vs 5200? Just asking.

Thanks for making me aware that there are options....if both products are there, I'll read the labels and choose.

I use Milliput for hull "dings", which is an epoxy 2 pack putty. it's very workable, and can be smoothed with a wet rag, which works well on small repairs, reducing amount of rubbing down. several colors are available inc white. I get it from ebay.

the 3m 5200 will be just fine, there is also another product called marine tex.

the proper way to repair a hull hole of any kind is to mix a batch of fiberglass resin with milled fibers.(this is called peanut butter or gype) ..fill....then gellcoat paste.

Re: Product for filling screw holes in fiberglass

Interesting posts....I'm replacing my drain plug from a poly w/ 2 screw holes to a bronze with 3 mounting holes which of course don't match up. I bought resin, hardener and a syringe to fill the 2 small holes.

I'm now reconsidering because 5200 squirted into the holes will be much quicker & easier....Anyone have any thoughts on this approach?

If you have no objection to obvious dirty little "5200" filled screw-holes, 3M 5200 would plug them up nicely. Its pretty bright white complexion doesn't stay bright white for very long.

Marine tex seems to stay white.

Silicon is not a good idea below the water line. I use it above deck for stopping leaks where something is mounted to the console, etc.

I bought some 5200 today.

The boat is 20 years old...pretty minty...but still 20 years old, I'll forgive a bit of "less than perfect."

The 'to do' list before first launch is getting shorter...:)

Silicone really has no purpose on a boat...... it tends to fail quickly.

If you use marine tex, PC11 or even the Bondo epoxy stick thay will all work great but you can not do a gel coat repair over them.

oops had the right answer if you want to gel coat repair over the top.
