Looking for the switch inside the control box to engage the prop forward and reverse. It's for a johnson 60h.p. outboard 1971. Even possibily the whole control box.:confused:

The individual switches are darn near impossible to find and even if you do find one, you'll pay a fotune for it. My best advice is to look for an entire control unit on EBay.

If you are handy and careful, you can disassemble and clean up the switch provided its not physically broken.
The 1971 60 hp is a hydroelectric gearcase; not to be confused with the earlier electromatic gearcases. The switches are different. And, as TD pointed out, the controls for the hydroelectric Johnsons and Evinrudes are also different.

Re: 1971 Johnson outboard hydro-electric switch

Clarification: While the Johnson Hydro-Electric conrol unit is different than the Evinrude version, they are compatible with motors of the "opposite" brand. You can use a Johnson HE control box on an Evinrude motor & vice-versa.

What is different, is the actual switch. The Johnson uses a toggle lever type switch, which is moved by the base of the throttle/shift handle, while the Evinrude has a three button switch. No matter which type is present, however, the electrical circuitry in the motors, is the same.
