Re: old gas?

For me, since my engines are dirt simple, old is a relative term that I never use. I have used gasoline at least 5 years old that smelled like paint. Burned and ran--That's all I can ask.

I never use any additives and winter my gas in the tank. Burns in the spring.

Re: old gas?

While Frank may have been extremely lucky with five year old gas, the decision to run it was not a wise one. Todays fuel can be safely left unprotected (no fuel treatment) for varying times depending on where you live and under what conditions the fuel is stored. Coastal areas seem to have lots of problems with moisture. Here in the midwest it is not that much of an issue. However, our boats are layed up for six months of the year so fuel treatment (Stabil or SeaFoam, and others) are routinely used. Fuel that is 9 months to a year old and untreated would best be used in your lawn mower.
