Removing Topside Paint Stripe

I have a 29' Pheonix Sportfish that has a badly faded stripe around the fiberglass Flybridge. Rather than repaint, I want to get rid of the remains and go with the gelcoat finish underneath. Any suggestions on the best way to get the faded paint off? Where it has completely faded, the gelcoat looks like the surrouding areas, so there is no reason for refinishing if I can get the old paint off without damaging it. Thanks!

3M makes a Pinstripe Removal tool....looks like a big pencil eraser kinda....it fits into a 3/8" drill. Removes the stripes and adhesive without removing the paint. I just used one on my boat and it worked great. Order online for like $25-$30.
