This is my first post, so far just reading the forums has been damn helpful, so thanks everyone.

I have a 1965 Evinrude (Lark VII) 40 hp, got it to run but it would only run with the choke on, it went from that to flooding non stop.. and now it will turn over and run for a very short while with the choke on but not with it off and still seems to get flooded however not as severely. I figure the carb needs a rebuild, but i cannot find a rebuild kit, cannot find a carb map, cannot find a manual, cannot find information that seems to pertain to my stupid motor. Im afraid that if I do get the carb kit, im going to have no idea how to install it. Im not a complete idiot with engines, i know my in's and out's enough that i should be able to do this. anyone know anything about this old of a motor, seems like most of the discussions are about 2 carb motors, and ones with two needles?

Thanks for any help:confused:

Re: Evinrude 40 hp Carb Confusion

Welcome to iBoats!

First, I would go to the top secret file at the top of the page and read about rebuilding carbs. They are all pretty similar in operation. Then I would go to the 'shop evinrude' website and look at the photos of an exploded view carb. They start at 1968, but I doubt there was any difference.

You can order the rebuild kit here are iBoats, or pay a little more and get the original maker version at shop evinrude.

Good luck, grab a screwdriver, and take lots of digital pictures from all sides before taking it apart. It is amazing how helpful that is when you want to double check how the linkage goes back together.
