I have a '79 85hp johnson that has had a "cold miss" for a while. I purchased a DVA adapter for my volt meter and began to make some measurements. The output of the port power pack is 170 volts and the starboard is 125 volts.
The charge coil output for the port side is 170 volts and 160 volts for the starboard. The trigger voltage is 2.5 volts for both sides.
I tried putting the port power pack on the starboard side and I got the same 125 volt output.
The resistance measurement for the charge coil is 560 ohms port and 500 starboard. Both charge coils read infinite resistance to ground. All of the ignitions coils were replaced about 2 years ago.
According to what I have read, the stator resistance and voltage outputs are within spec. Swapping the power packs did not change the low starboard output. Can the stator assembly be bad?
