I'm attempting to reupholser my '89 Bayliner, that was fitted with a '03 Mercury 125 Saltwater, and I assume the control unit came with it. I need to remove the control unit to get to the upholstered panel, but can't figure out how to disassemble the control unit handle (forward and reverse, trim) to get it removed from the panel to reupholster, any suggestions? Seems like there must be a retaining clip of some type???

Re: Mercury control removal

Without knowing EXACTLY which control you have we can't help you... Try download the SERVICE MANUAL for the controls and finding the one you have. All instructions for dis-assembly are there.

Re: Mercury control removal

i have an 03 60hp efi 4 stroke, so my control box should be similar to yours. The whole control box is bolted to the side and is held on with 2 long bolts with nuts on the end. Undo these bolts and the unit should come away from the side. My bolts were philips head and about 10mm nuts on the back. They will probably be Nylocs.
Hope this helps.
cheers
