Default Aluminum Boat Coating?

I have a very old 14ft Richline fishing boat, when I got it it had been sealed on the inside with a coating (which is now peeling off) and some type of yellowed epoxy on the outside. But it has started to take on alittle water this year. What is the best way to refinish take off old and what brand of coating is best to reapply?I would like to paint it also is this possible over epoxy?

Katiedoes,Without knowing what the coating is, that's going to be a tough one.I would suggest trying acetone to cut it.A good coating for aluminum is: Gluv It. It's available at: www.westmarine.com

I once owned a 25ft alum cabin cruiser that leaked.I had the bottom sand blasted and I coated it with a product that I think interlux made.It was called Bitumastic. It was a tar epoxy that was recommended to me by the Marine bureau which they used on all their boats. It worked quite well and can be brushed on.Charlie

Knock off the big chunks, clean with xylene and coat with DURABAK...last time you'll EVER have to mess with it again...
