My brother was helping change some lightbulbs in the Church gym yesterday morning. The 40 ft extension ladder came off the beam and he fell approximately 20 feet, landing flat on his back on top of the ladder ... busted up a good 40 foot extension ladder!

Anyway, brother is in the hospital with 6 busted vertibrae ... but there is no internal damage, he will not need a back brace, he should be out of the hospital in a day or two ... God was good and it is nothing short of a miracle that there is not more or permanent damage. However, Bro is in a LOT of pain right now (with nasty bruising that shows the rails and rungs of the ladder). Please keep him in your prayers for quick healing.

Art, we will keep him in our prayers.

That is amazing and I am sure that his recovery will be the same.

Please keep us updated on his progress!

Wow! While I know your brother doesn't feel so lucky now, he really is. Frankly, I amazed that he didn't become paralyzed.

That said, he is fortunate and will recover nicely, I think. My thoughts are with him, with best wishes for exactly that outcome.

I'm sorry to hear that Art. I hope all is well and the healing is quick. Keep your stick on the ice and we'll be thinking of him in the north.

Re: Prayers appreciated ...

All I can say at this point is that God was with him as he fell! His L1-L5 are all fractured (8 places total) and a few have some displacement of bone. However, nothing effects the spinal column or the integrity of the vertebrae, it is where the muscle attaches to the bone. The muscle will keep the bone fragments in place.

He came home yesterday and does not need a back brace, or anything. He is in a bit of pain, but knowing my brother, he will be back to working on boats in a week or so!

His bruising Sunday afternoon was only about 1/3 of what it was on Saturday. Figured his back would be ALL bruised, but it wasn't. He is getting up and down, took a shower, navigating steps, etc.

Thanks for your prayers ... they do work!

Been there, done that. Not an ideal way to learn about human anatomy and what an L1 and L2 vertebrae are. Hoping for a speedy recovery.
Upside is that you develop a whole new respect for heights and safety.

Sounds like a plan! Give a shout when you can come ... my Saturday mornings and Sundays are rather busy, but late Saturday afternoons and during the week I can usually get out ... when I have a good excuse ;). See you there!
