1972 johnson 25hp tiller question

what will it take to change a 72 johnson from a tiller to a control? i have the controls but do i need somthing else?

You have to have the throttle and steering system, and then you will need the brackets to connect the cables to the motor.

It also helps if you have electric start and electric choke.

What kind of steering are you using? OMC sold a steering bracket attachment for the cable & pulley steering systems that was required on all 5? through 25 horse (69-76) outboards with cable & pulley steering, part # 377440. In addition some motors required additional stuff but not your 25.

Shown below is a part that looks like p.n. 377440 (ignore that it says p.n. 379568) to give an idea of what is needed.

i think im ok i am switching from a 63 evinrude 28 hp to the 72 johnson 25hp
the steering is in place and the 25 has a bracket to accept the cables i just was not sure what to do with the tiller handle.do i just remove it?

I would try to figure a way to keep the tiller handle on there. Those can be hard to come by and would be worth more if you decide to resell.
