I have the opportunity to purchase a 2 stroke 90 hp Mercury. Is there is difference in rated hp between a 4 stroke and a 2 stroke engine. If I am looking at a boat with a max of 90hp, how will a 90 2 cycle handle the load?

Re: horsepower question

90hp = 90hp, if they are bout measured the same way ( Mercurys are all measured at the prop shaft after 1983/84 )...

4-strokes might have a bit more torque and
2-strokes might be a bit quicker/better response ...

I would be more concerned about the engine weight as some of the 4-stroke engines are a lot heavier than the 2-stroke engines...
