Fine tune the set up. Loading, trim, prop, motor height. After that it's a bigger motor.
My 2 cents

Re: how to make more power

follow any of my threads in the past half-year...^^

I got a 96 88SPL and worked it as hard as anyone could.

interestingly, the 2 most effective improvements cruise speedwise was raising the motor and getting a really good matched prop for my boat size/weight/usage.

after that I swapped in 1-5/16" carburators off a 110HP (up from the 1-3/16") that are norm for the 88.

in the end though, I just completely replaced the 88HP with a Johnson 110 crossflow powerhead that has the bubble back exhaust, and improved exhaust port timing.

Last weekend, i GPS'd my 18ft center console, 3 people, light chop, with a 15Pitch prop at 38mph.

A new cowling or new decals could make it a 115HP.:D

You are not going to get useful increases in performance without increasing displacement.

Your best bet is to fine tune the rigging and prop, as Ken suggests.
