I have an 1989 Johnson GT 200 on a 20' Javalin. The lower unit has developed a crack in it without any impact or reason. After breaking it down all internal parts are fine.

My first question is does anyone know why this would happen?

My second question is what lower units (complete) will interchange or what lower housings can i use with my parts to build a unit.

My third question is the crack is on the left side between the bearing housing and the lower drain plug (dosn't make it to either, just in between) and does not effect operablity just lets all fluid out. How long would a good weld probably hold?

Thanks in advance.

Re: 89 GT 200 interchange

The most common reason for cracks like that are from rain water freezing because the motor was stored tilted up instead of in the running position.

There is no shortage of good used drives for your motor; salvage yards should give you a warranty. http://forums.iboats.com/showpost.php?p=2379071&postcount=1
