How to remove metal shavings from fly wheel

Starter drive hit flywheel causing metal shavings to get into firing mechanisn. Won't fire. How can I remove these metal shavings. 1986 Mercury 25HP outboard

Try using a magnetized wand or retriever of some kind

'bout all you can do is pinch them off with your bare fingers. You might leak a little.

Try using cheese cloth folded over a couple of times. It works pretty good.

i may be a noob to outboards but try a good "rare earth" magnet in a thick towel , dont get the rare earth mag. get too close to the trigger mag. it may lose the magnetic charge. i have done this with my snowblower flywheel and it worked great. as it passes over the particles they all stand up so you can pick them off by hand.
