I put my motor on a different hull and need help hooking up the ignition switch. The ignition has 6 terminals. I have all the wires (except for the purple) connected where they belong. I believe the purple is for the tach. The motor is a Mercury 125hp. Thanks Tony;)

Re: Ignition switch wiring help needed

The tach connection does not go to the ignition switch.
A = accessory (powers the gauges) and in some cases the fuse panel.
B = +12 volts via the red wire in the engine harness.
C = Choke (primer) solenoid
M = Magneto
M = Magneto ground
S = Starter solenoid.

I don't know the exact year yet. But it is a Mercury Force 125hp made from 1984-88. If you need the exact year, I can post it tomorrow night.
Thanks Tony:D

The purple wire on any Merc is "ignition power". When the keyswitch is in the "run" position, it's hot, usually feeds your gauges and any other acc.'s that run off the motor. Pu a meter on the the back side of the switch and turn the key to run. Then see what terminal has voltage. That's where it goes. Just make sure there is no voltage when the key is off...

Re: Ignition switch wiring help needed

Thanks Seabob! I'll check it out tomorrow night. And thanks to the others that also replyed. I have found this forum to have alot of good info in here. I've been reading lots of the old posts and looking at wiring diagrams. With this info I've gotten some of my issues with my boat resolved. Thanks Tony:D
