100 hp Mercury inline outboard electrical issue

I am a new member here, and would really appreciate any advice or answers on this question: Is there a fuse or circuit breaker somewhere between the engine and the remote control unit? I definitely have power to the motor and at first had power to the remote. (starting, hydraulic lift, etc.) I installed a chart lite and got a positive testing on a hot wire. After I connected the chart lite to the hot wire, the light didn't work. I tested the wire again and had no power. Did I blow a fuse? Thanks for the help. JH

Most all of the fuses should be around the battery or in some sort of fuse box. I would check to see if you lost power to anything else to give you a better idea of where the open might be. I doubt if thats all you were wiring that the engine would be involved.

The boat has two batteries. One for starting the motor and one for fish finders, trolling motor, live well pump, etc. I was using an available hot lead in the wiring between the motor and the remote drive unit. The power was only on when the key was on. Now there is no power at the remote and there is power at the motor.

On some OMC and Yam's there is a 20 amp fuse in the motor housing, just off the solonoid, that can run to the tilt and starter.
Try the repair and Mercury forums. I've been fighting a 20A fuse problem for a while now.

Problem solved. Yes, there is a 30 amp fuse behind a plastic shroud that covers the wiring. Replaced the fuse and it's good to go. Thanks for the help.
