I'm just goin by the shape...doesn't sound like a Mercruiser #...If I am not mistaken..don't Bravos and Gen II's have different ways of draining gear lube? Just a thought...

How about if we name it Fred ?

Seriously, take a picture of it looking at the surface shown with the red arrows.
Right now, I don't think it's an IO lower.

Yes, that is a Bravo I. The earlier models had the drain plug on the outside of the drive, and assuming your screen name indicates the boat this is for, then it's the first year the Bravo's came out. (89).

Re: name this lower outdrive...

thanks don for the info. it makes me feel better, lol.
i just happened to look at it and i didnt see the drain plug.
so with this style do i have to fill the lower up with gear oil before i put the halves together?

and ss good luck with yours. i hope all turns out well. let everything dry out completly before hooking up any kind of power to it. drain the oil and replace cap and rotor while your at it. hopefully she will turn over without any problems.

thanks again guys,
brian

Re: name this lower outdrive...

You still fill the drive the same was as if the drain/fill was on the side. The nice thing about having the drain under the prop is it requires removing the prop to get at it. You then need to grease the prop. You would be amazed how may props I've CUT off and destroyed because no one ever took the prop off and greased the shaft. Then they corrode on and become one with the shaft.
The manufacturers should make all drives/lower units fill from behind the prop.
