Hi.
I'm looking at a '60 All American and it has a really nice 35 Evenrude. I understand it's a small motor, but is it too small to consider for a 16-18 foot boat?

What do you think? I'm thinking of buying the boat and saving my pennies for more power down the road. Do you think I'll be miserable in the meantime?

I'm not looking to pull 2 skiers, but I don't want a crazy slow boat for safety reasons.

I think you will need at least a 70 on that boat for it not to be very slow. I have never heard anyone complain that their boat had too much power!

Agree. Also there's a BIG difference between a 16' and an 18'. Just as an example, my 16' Starcraft Jupiter was rated for 85HP. My 18' Starcraft SS is rated for 150!

For a 16' I would say 50 is the bare minimum. On an 18, 70 would be minimum. Anything less would be unacceptable.

That's what I was thinking. I've already found a similar boat with a 135!

Thanks guys!

Now we're talking! Hey Jake, Welcome to iboats. If you want input on boats you're considering purchasing, post in one of the more general sections. These manufacturer-specific sections don't get a lot of traffic.

Good advice. Thanks.

I'm going to look at a Slickcraft (the one with the 135) this weekend. Wish me luck!
