Installing a Stereo

I just got a older model seadoo speedster and am thinking about putting a marine audio system in it. My question is, obviously you have to cut holes in the fiberglass to install the speakers and the receiver, will this affect the structural integrity of the boat? Any advice when doing this? I would plan on wiring the receiver and power source from the wiring harnesses behind the steering wheel.

Thanks for everyone's help!

Re: Installing a Stereo

Most of the time speakers are mounted in the engine compartment (non structural) or in the interior side panels which are non structural.

Either use a really big hole saw or a saber saw. If cutting through fiberglass do 2 things. Use a drilled hole to start the blade and tape all around the hole to prevent chipping and scratching of the glass.

Also any holes you drill in fiberglass for anything should be slightly counter sunk.
This bevels the glass, helps relieve stress and prevents the surface from cracking/chipping.

Good luck with your install.
