I bought this boat knowing that I would need to replace the floor. I got it for a very cheap price so I figured...floor repair??? No problem! Until I get the floor up and see the stringer on the starboard side. It happens to be totally rotted. This in itself does not faze me. My concern is that this is a runabout with walk thru windshield. How far does the stringer run going to the bow? From what I can see, the rot continues under the fiberglass floor of the forward area, which means I'll have to pop the top. What is involved this process? Do I need to separate the top from the hull? Are there any model specific manuals or how-to's that I can get that will shed some light on what I?m about to get into? Going this far into a repair I only want to do this once.

Thanks!

Re: 1990 Four Winns stringer and floor repair

Welcome to iboats!

You are in the right place for this type of repair!

All the information you need is just a search away in this forum.

First off boats have decks, not floors. ;) You may not need to pull the cap, depending on how extensive the rot is.... The stringers usually run from the bow to the stern.

I would start by removing all the bad deck area so you can get a good look at what faces you... From the sound of things you're more than likely gonna need stringers and deck replacement. Post some pictures so the experts can chime in!

With all the great folks here, and the wealth of experience, you'll be on the water in no time!

Good luck!
