I'm replacing the lift assist on my '89 48SPL w/ a used OEM trim unit part # 0438135. The guy I'm getting it from is including the sending unit but says that I need some kind of relay to handle the reverse polarity....I'm assuming between the switch and the trim unit when switching from up to down. Can anyone shed some light on this for me and point me to what I need.
Much obliged!

ALSO: I might have another one of these trim units if anyone's interested....I'll know in a week or so.

I cant find the number you posted but make sure it is a single ram trim as you cannot install a 3 ram on this engine.

it looks to be a 2 wire lead to the motor. the seller only sold you 1/2 of what you need. you now need the relay/junction box that reverses the polarity of the current, so the motor can run in either direction.

OK....I'll wait to hear from you before going any further on getting one. In my research it looks like there is a 2 wire box and a 3 wire box. They're pretty much standard depending on which system you have.
Thanks again!
