Re: Inside electrical wiring

I assume msr lights are Master Stateroom Lights? If you feel you have good voltage at the switch, pull down one of the fixtures and check for voltage going into and coming out of the light. Usually lights in the same stateroom are daisy-chained together. A burnt out bulb won't affect the chain, but a voltage issue out of the first fixture in the chain will...

Re: Inside electrical wiring

I know nothing about boat wiring; i.e. don't know if they use 115v, 24v, or 12v for lighting.

However, if they use the low dc voltages, terminal integrity is of the utmost importance, especially as the current rises.

A 12v, 40w bulb will draw 40/12 or 3.3 amps. 10 lights would be sucking 33 amps from your light switch. If your wiring had only 1 ohm of resistance in the input of the string (like seabob said) in THEORY 33v would be dropped across that bad junction/terminal.

Since your only have 12v available to power the lights, you ainna gonna get there from heah. If the lights did burn it would be very dimly and they would be putting out a lot less than 40 watts and the current would be a lot less than 33 amps.
