hello ,

i wondering if anyone has a motor of the same or can point me to the right stator number - the mercury dealer said it supercedes to a red stator and module upgrade but i dont think thats right - even the oem part number they gave me doesnt match up to replacements - i believe these motors ran from 81 -89 and they called classic fifty but they are 45hp 4cyl. models .

Mercury 398832074A6 @ 300$
or
CDI 1745454K1 @ 160$

The choice is yours (and CDI aren't of lesser quality, beleive me, the're at least as good as OEM)

Check it out for yourself... I think you'll be surprised, your Merc dealer was right.

you must have read my post the wrong way cause that page proves the dealer was wrong - the dealer claimed my origonal part was a 398-832075A14 - which supercedes to a red stator with crossover module ,still leaving me short 2 connections to the switch box - the next poster came up with what i also believe to be the right stator - listed by cdi as a 174-5454K1 which has all the connections. theres always alot of confusion when ordering parts for this motor -thanks for proving me right though .:)

I have seen the 45/50 motor with a standard stator and some with the module. Go CDI it cheaper and better.

okay so i figured it out and my motor uses the 174-5454K1 stator from cdi as my flywheel has the bolted in magnets . if it had glued in magnets i would have to use the red stator and module - the looks of it and the potential for problems sends shivers - but luckily mine came with a good flywheel .

Hello, can you tell me the resistance through the red wires and tell we what you get from the new stator?? Mine is at 151, spec says 75 ohms max. Any Thoughts??? Boat runs but I'm afraid I'm gonna blow the brand new switch box if I keep using this stator.

Thanks!!
